Our Director of Research

Joe Schmidt, Our Director of Research

Joe Schmidt is Director of Research and Development at ABS Friction, a company he co-founded in 1995. Applying his experience and knowledge to implement manufacturing processes according to a variety of product specifications, Joe has been instrumental in the research and development of new friction compounds.  He is vigilant on the approval of raw materials used and the introduction of new products.

Starting in the automotive parts industry with Canparts Automotive International in 1981 as Production Lead Hand at their Cambridge, Ontario facilities, Joe later moved up to the position of Senior Quality Control Manager and assisted with research and development.  Canparts, a world leader in the development and marketing of non-asbestos aftermarket disc brake pads.   Canparts was purchased by Abex Industries in the December 1987.

In 1988 Joe joined Frictiontech in the position of Plant Manager.  Frictiontech was a start-up brake pad manufacturer located in Guelph.  He was responsible for all plant operations as well as contributed to their research and development programs.

Joe lives with his family in Ayr.  He is avid fisherman and snowmobiler.
